Mixing and matching is just what the doctor ordered

I am a devout follower of buying quality over quantity and that is how I got dressed today. A few days ago I went out for dinner with a friend and then ran in to J Crew. I’m not a huge J Crew fan, because it’s even more expensive then Banana Republic and even Banana Republic is too expensive for me on any given day. However, I can make up excuses to go to Banana Republic because I can charge it every once in a while on my Old Navy credit card.

Anyway, beyond the fact that J Crew is pretty darn expensivo, their clothing is classic and made well. There’s a reason why Michelle Obama wears it all the time. And even bigger reason why we all run out and buy the outfits she wears from there.  So, after putting on a few necklaces, putting them down and picking them up again I came across a plethora of cardigans. I mean, there were like 5-6 different styles. All, out of my price range. I may wear them a lot, but not enough to justify spending $89 on one. Now, $89 on some shoes, that’s another story. 🙂 I came across the perfect cardigan though, it was a Jackie Cardigan for $39.99. It was black and it fit perfectly. It was love. I had to have it. Too bad I forgot to use the gift card I had in my wallet so it would only be $29.99.  So, this sweater was mine. I took it home with me.

This sweater, then was matched with a Jamica Green polka-dot cami from the Gap (currently on sale for $7.99 originally $15) along with Mossimo Denim Capris from Target (now $199.99). Typical for me. Nothing over stated, nothing too overdone. Just perfect. And paired with some black flat sandals. Yes. Fabulous.

The cardigan was the statement piece today. And you wouldn’t have even known it had you not asked me. That’s the best part about mixing and matching expensive pieces with less expensive pieces. Sometimes your friends and co-workers won’t even know that you’re wearing something amazing. But, it’s what matters to you and how you feel on the inside. If it brings a smile to your face, a spring to your step and makes you want to work towards your passion, then buying that one $39.99 sweater and wearing that $7.99 cami may just be the right move for you.
